Ktunaxa Nation
Ktunaxa Nation, or, rather, part of this widespread First Nation—is nestled in one of BC’s most beautiful areas. You can’t help but feel creative when you’re surrounded by clear, blue waters and the majestic Rockies. Winter or summer, the view is spectacular.
Ktunaxa Nation is made up of members of seven Bands. Columbia Lake Band lives in Windermere, BC, just five minutes from Shuswap Band in Invermere. St. Mary’s Band lives in Cranbrook, BC, Tobbaco Plains Band in Grasmere, BC and Lower Kootenay Band in Creston, BC. Kootenai Tribe of Idaho and Ksanka Band reside in Idaho and Montana respectively.
Economic Powerhouse
The seven Bands share a language, traditional lands and a common culture. The traditional territory of the Ktunaxa Nation consists of much of southeast BC and extends into the USA. There is evidence that this territory has been their home for at least 10,000 years.
